Moving to Sudbury

A tranquil, semi-rural setting in Boston’s MetroWest? You will find it in Sudbury, the jewel of Middlesex County. With its beautiful setting and rich historical heritage, Sudbury is a wonderful place to call home.

Incorporated in 1639, Sudbury’s storied past incorporates many of the people and places of note in American history and literary life. Sudbury militia participated in the Battle of Lexington and Concord. The Wayside Inn, a Sudbury landmark, is said to be the country’s oldest operating inn. It was immortalized by Henry Wadsworth Longfellow in his volume of poetry, Tales of a Wayside Inn. This book is where we derive the phrase “Listen my children and you shall hear, of the midnight ride of Paul Revere.” The inn was later bought by Henry Ford, restored, and donated to a charitable foundation which continues to operate it. On the same grounds is the Redstone Schoolhouse, the school mentioned in Sarah Josepha Hale’s nursery rhyme “Mary Had a Little Lamb.” Sudbury’s history is so important to the town, there was once a rumor that the zip code, 01776, was specially assigned in recognition of its historical importance, but the Sudbury Historical Society disputes this.

Sudbury Public Schools are among the finest in the state and the country. They include four elementary schools and a middle school. High School students attend Lincoln-Sudbury Regional High School.

Residential zoning favoring larger lots have helped to preserve the rural character of the area, ensuring that you will never feel crowded. These large lots contribute to the charm of the town and its natural beauty. Significant tracts of open space have been preserved in the northern part of town, including wetland areas, further contributing to this emphasis.

Highlights of the area include the The Wayside Inn Historic Site, the Old Grist Mill Museum, and many other sites of historical significance. In addition, the Assabet River National Wildlife Refuge offers many miles of spectacular trails for birding, hiking, leaf peeping, and more.

If you are looking for the finest in New England landscape and architectural character, an appreciation for history and the natural world, and tremendous educational opportunities, look no further than Sudbury. Let us start your Sudbury real estate search today!
